Chinese days of the week

The Chinese days of the week, like many parts of the Chinese language, are very logical and easy to remember. You'll need to be familiar with the basic Chinese numbers.

A week is a xīng qī, literally a "star period":

37152星期xīng qī/week/ xīng qī (week)

The days of the week from Monday to Saturday are simply numbered:

37161星期一xīng qī yī/Monday/ xīng qī yī (Monday)
37153星期二xīng qī èr/Tuesday/ xīng qī èr (Tuesday)
37157星期三xīng qī sān/Wednesday/ xīng qī sān (Wednesday)
37158星期四xīng qī sì/Thursday/ xīng qī sì (Thursday)
37160星期五xīng qī wǔ/Friday/ xīng qī wǔ (Friday)
37155星期六xīng qī liù/Saturday/ xīng qī liù (Saturday)

Sunday is slightly different, giving you two choices:

Alternative words for weekdays

Chinese also has two other ways to express weeks and days; zhōu and lǐ bài:

Both of these have the day number appended in the same way as for xīng qī, above.

The weekend

The alternative word for week, zhōu, has one other use - it's also used to say the weekend:

43470周末zhōu mò/weekend/ zhōu mò (weekend)
